The 28th edition of Francophonie Days at the University of Zielona Góra is now behind us—a two-day event that attracted all lovers of French culture. The richness of French culture and language was showcased through presentations by both lecturers and students of the University of Zielona Góra. The goal was clear: to present the beauty of France in the broadest way possible.
Topics covered included French-style gardens, a brief history of aerostats in France, and Polish translations of Corneille’s Le Cid. As part of the event, three competitions were held: an art contest titled My French Travels, Big and Small for students in grades 5–8 of primary schools, and two editions of the France Knowledge Contest—one for secondary school students and one for students of our university.
“From the heart, I consider French literature to be one of the greatest treasures of France. But speaking pragmatically—knowing French is incredibly useful when traveling the world. Almost everyone speaks English, but it’s also worth learning French. To avoid committing a faux pas and to be able to immerse yourself in a culture. You can easily communicate in French in countries like Belgium or Switzerland, and even across the Atlantic in Canada. Learning French—or any Romance language—also gives you the chance to stand out” says Dr. Witold Kowalski, Head of the Romance Studies Unit at the University of Zielona Góra.
The organizer of the 28th Francophonie Days was the Romance Studies Unit of the Institute of Modern Languages at the University of Zielona Góra.
